Projects


The projects conducted by SEDS South Africa depend on the interests of the chapters and students involved. Calls for participants, trainees, collaborators, advisors and support, will be issued for each project. SEDS South Africa supports some initiatives led by SEDS South Africa chapters, and facilitates the engagement of local and international stakeholders in these projects. Our interests at SEDS South Africa are represented in a number of working groups which you can get involved in, including:

- building and launching small satellites (cansats, pocketqubes, cubesats)
- astronomy
- licensing and operating ham amateur radio (satnogs satellite ground stations)
- model rocketry
- local and international collaborations
- Space law (Artemis Accords, Space treaties etc)
- Hackathons like the NASA Space Apps Challenge or zindi.africa
- SEDS Talks
- Mars analogue missions
- data analysis of Earth Observation and satellite data, including ML and AI
- manufacturing in Space
- Space technology to benefit humankind.
